Although the PlayStation 5 Pro is yet to be announced, rumors about its name and
design are already stacking up. From an article in Dealabs we found out PS5 Pro
leaked name of the upgrade is going to be “PS5 Pro” (not surprised), and also got
a little sneak peek of its design although not sure how much to believe this mere
rumor. It is said that the new console resembles the look of PS5 slim in white but
there are three black stripes in the middle of the outer layer of PS5pro.

Looking back at the PS4 Pro timeline, that console was announced in September 2016
and then arrived a mere two months later in November 2016. If Sony were to
follow that same pattern, we’re not far off hearing more concrete news. It is
looking very likely that we see a mid-generation upgrade very soon along with
hearing an announcement in September 2024.

In March, putative PS5 Pro specs leak online which included improvements in the
CPU, ideally the same PS5 CPU but with a high CPU frequency mode. The GPU on
the other hand is to enable faster rendering and higher quality ray tracing
powered by 33.5 teraflops. The standard PS5 offers 10.28 teraflops. However, a
direct PS5 to PS5 Pro comparison would work out at around 10.28 vs 16 to 17
teraflops. It is also going to have a detachable disk drive and 1TB of storage space.

Sony has indeed chosen the perfect time to be releasing the update as the sales
of PS5 had already started declining.

Sony has a history of releasing mid-generation console updates, a practice they’ve
followed since the original PlayStation. Just last year, the PS5 launch model was
swapped out for the PS5 Slim in stores. More notably, during the previous
generation, Sony introduced a more powerful version of the PlayStation 4—the
PS4 Pro—providing a performance boost and delivering enhanced experiences
with nearly all PS4 games.
