This has been a debate between a lot of people belonging from western cinema but was left on public preference and decision not to our surprise, the movie that won the title of the scariest movie in the hearts of movie geeks is the exorcist 1973
And without adoubt the exorcist really is one of the best horror movies in cinema to ever release and horrifyingly enough is also loosely based on a true story.
What makes exorcist so scary?
The story follows the demonic possession of a young girl and her mother’s attempt to rescue her through an exorcism by two Catholic priests. Reading the description it doesn’t look much big of a horrifying watch but people have claimed to have spine chilling nightmares after watching this movie.
The movie was one of the most profitable horror movies of western cinema.
People waited in the ticket lines for hours in extreme cold weathers to have the theatrical experience of the movie after it instantly started gaining fame from its reviews.
What after The Exorcist?
Millennials and Gen-z couldn’t get the scary movie theater experience of the exorcist but the second most scariest R rated movies that have had rumors of people leaving the cinema even before the interval was The Conjuring.
That movie is not just loosely but purely based on a true story. The hype of this movie made even the scaredy cats to go and watch it although we’re pretty sure what that did to their bed time.

Back story: what really happened?
According to Medium, the true story that inspired the silver screen is that a family moved to a farmhouse unaware of its dark history. The house had been a home to a series of tragedies.
The family started to experience unusual activities like things disappearing, bed moving in the middle of the night and unsettling noises. An unexplained needle like wound on one of the daughters’ leg confirmed the family of the activities not being a coincidence.
